Hey guys, it's been a really long time hasn't it? Sorry for not being on here for years, it's just that IRL stuff happened and I've just been lurking for the past few years.
Ok, I'll just get right to the point, seeing as the title of this doesn't bode well. Recently, as most if not all of you already know, this site decided to promote AI generated art and from what I can gather from the numerous artists I've watched, they can use your own work without your permission and make it their own. Ok, I knew that this site has gone nowhere but downhill for the past years or so, but THIS? This is by far the lowest of lows. Not only that, but coupled with the promotion of NFT's, which is the dumbest idea I have no clue why anyone would support this, this is definitely not the site I once joined.
I came to this site and have been on here for more than a decade. Sure I never really did much, but I had fun for a while. I still come on to see the numerous artworks of other people, although I since then switched to following them on Twitter despite not having an account and other art sites like pixiv and even Twitch. I've seen many of the people I watched leave the site or even just be outright inactive, and yet I still hung around just to see the artists I have come to enjoy.
And now, here we are. When I came on today, I noticed a lot, and I mean A LOT of the artists I've been watching are opting to deactivate their accounts because of what these numbnuts are doing. What happened!? Where was the site that I visited all those years ago? The site where people can create art with their own hands and hard work and connect with others? This place has changed, and definitely not for the better. These artists were good people, hardworking and talented. Sure they had irl stuff to worry about, but they're all good people. But with the advent of this new AI art and NFT's, they've been insulted, betrayed even. As I'm writing this, more and more artists are leaving this site for good until they can get their act together, though honestly speaking, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon. For the time being, I'll stay and see how this will unfold. However, I've gone and stored all my art until further notice. If this keeps up, I may have to follow suit and deactivate my account as well. Not like I had much of a presence here to begin with, but I don't wish to support a site that's willing to sweep these people under the rug to make way for AI and digital goods that are more detrimental and pointless than anything.
And so I'll finish up here. If you guys are wanting to deactivate your accounts because of this site's new policy, that's ok, I won't blame you for doing so. Many artists have already left the platform and many more are going to continue to do so in droves. I fear for the future of this place, and for art in general.
